About

Occlux is a research-stage software platform investigating the automation of prosthetic smile design through deep learning and computational geometry.

The current generation of digital smile design tools — exocad Smile Creator, Smilecloud, 3Shape Smile Design — generate aesthetic previews but stop short of producing CAD-ready restorative geometry. The gap between visualization and production remains a manual process, performed by skilled technicians over multiple hours per case.

Occlux addresses this gap directly. Our pipeline ingests intraoral scan data and extraoral facial photography, performs facial-arch registration, selects anatomical tooth morphology from a parametric library, and outputs an STL-ready upper-arch design with auto-occlusion against the antagonist arch.

The platform is currently in prototype, undergoing closed evaluation with partner laboratories.

The cost of manual design

A single smile design takes 60+ minutes. Most labs do 200+ per month.

For every minute spent on routine arch design, a master technician is not doing the work that actually requires their judgment. That is the gap Occlux closes.

63 min

Average expert time per case in exocad.¹

€30–50k

Monthly technician cost for a mid-sized lab — paid mostly to repeat the same design choices.

How it works

From scan to STL.
Without the wait.

Upload your intraoral scans and patient photo. Occlux returns a production-ready design with calibrated occlusion in under two minutes.

01 / Upload

Drop intraoral scans (STL) and a frontal smile photo. Occlux auto-aligns face to arch.

02 / Generate

AI selects from 200+ tooth libraries based on facial morphology, then positions every tooth with anatomical landmarks.³

03 / Export

Auto-occlusion against the lower arch. Export STL. Open in exocad. Mill.

The gap we fill

Built for the part nobody else automated.

Today's smile design tools generate beautiful previews. They don't produce CAD-ready output. Occlux closes the gap between aesthetics and production.

FAQ

Questions, answered.

Don't see yours? Reach us at hello@occlux.com.

  • Occlux accepts STL files from any major intraoral scanner — 3Shape TRIOS, iTero, Medit, Cerec Primescan, Carestream — and exports STL that opens directly in exocad, 3Shape Dental System, and Meditlink.

  • Scans and photos are processed in EU-resident infrastructure and held only for the duration of the design. After STL export, source media is purged within 24 hours unless you opt in to retain a case archive. No patient identifiers are kept by default.

  • Occlux outputs are non-final design proposals reviewed by a licensed technician before manufacturing. We are pursuing CE mark for the diagnostic-grade tier; the current pilot is a workflow tool that produces STL design files, not a regulated medical device.

  • Tooth landmark detection — the foundation of our occlusion algorithm — has been independently validated against expert annotations³. Internal benchmarks place mean occlusal contact error below 80μm, within the tolerance band of conventional digital workflows. Every case ships with an occlusion-quality score for technician review.

  • exocad AI Design¹³ automates parts of single-tooth morphology inside a manual workflow. Occlux automates the full upper arch end-to-end, with auto-occlusion, and ships a production-ready STL. Today's tools generate previews; they don't close the production-readiness gap.

  • Day 1: kickoff call and scanner integration check. Days 2–4: we onboard a pilot technician on real cases from your queue. Days 5–14: you run live cases with us on call. At day 14 you choose: continue on a volume tier, or walk away — no charge.
